At the end of each year, a Guide to Ankara is created which features articles and lists about what "locals" think are the best spots! It is now being published in Turkish as well as English. For more information, go to this site at mymerhaba.com:

Olgunlar Sokak: Used Books in Kizilay
Olgunla Sokak runs east west between AtatUrk Blv and Kizilrmak Cd. It is just west of the Kocatepe Mosque in Kizilay.
This small street is crowed with people and used book sellers. The books tend to cater to the Ankara University students studying near by. However, if you ask for English books there will be some around, often tucked in behind, and will brought out for you. I have purchased some fairly cheap used classics there.
Try saying: Ingilizce kitaplar var mI?
Good luck!

Finding English Books to Read
In Ankara, it can be difficult to find large collections of English books and novels. If you start to poke your head into the book stores you pass, you will eventually find one close to your house that has a small collection. In Kizilay, there is a bookstore called "Dost" that has decent collection of non-fiction and contemporary novels (pedestrian street, off of Ziyah Gokup, near the Metro entrance).
Also, D&R books in TunalI has an entire floor dedicated to English books but it is extremely expensive. Classics seem to be very reasonably priced here and Dost has a large collection. Another good option is Amazon.com. Amazon will ship to your house, and if you are willing to wait a few weeks, the shipping cost is not out of this world.

Finding and Reading the News
In Ankara there are many newspapers; as well as news programs on TV (including CNN Turk and BBC). To find the news in English, you can find two reputable newspapers that have an English version:
The Hurriyet: Tends to be more liberal T
Today's Zaman: Tends to be more conservative
Sabah
Also, these newspapers publish the English versions in print but you may have to visit an English based association or embassy to find them. Some book stores stock English magazines, but I have found them to be VERY pricey. One example is DandR Bookstore in TunalI.
