At first buying perfume or cologne can seem complicated here. There are three basic levels of shopping for these items: street, perfume store, department store. On the street, you will be able to find cheap perfumes and colognes that are exact replicas of the real brands. However, the quality of the scent may leave something to be desired. If you buy perfume or cologne in a department store, you will be paying more money than usual for your favourite scent but it will be original.
The best way to purchase perfumes and to take advantage of Ankara's great "fakes" market is to buy your perfume or cologne at a perfume store. These stores will seem daunting at first, because the walls are lined with similar looking glass bottles, and browsing is not particularly possible. You might wonder exactly how you are meant to find the correct scent and if you can get "fakes" in these stores. In these stores, Turkish is not really needed. When entering you will be given a list of name brand perfumes and colognes with their corresponding numbers. For example, if you wish to buy J'Adore, you just need to point to the number. The only drawback is that you will be not be given the scent in a bottle that looks like the original however the quality of the perfume/cologne will be quite good. The store assistant will help you test lots of different brands as well and has coffee beans. Have fun!
