Bars in Ankara: The Northern Shield
The Northern Shield is in the Cankaya/Y.Ayranci areas on Guvenlik Caddesi at the corner of Yesil Yurt. This bar is an absurd mix of european styles mixed into a pub that clearly caters to expats and upper class Turkish business people. The pub is expensive, a bottle of Carlsberg is 10 TL and a coke is 5TL. This being said, it has created a cozy atmosphere of old taps, dark wood, leather chairs and old English paraphernalia. The service is good, with a coat check at the door and heaters outside for smokers. The menu boasts English treats such as fish and chips. Expense aside, expats may enjoy the warmth and atmosphere. Beers available include Carlsberg, Becks, Fosters, Heineken and Efes. Have fun!
