The Fez hat in Turkey
The "fez", a common hat associated with Turkish culture, was outlawed by Ataturk as a symbol of the old ways. In his effort to modernize Turkey, he made them illegal to wear. Therefore, as the fez has gone out of use for the past 80 years, it is now a tourist item that harkens back to Turkey's history.
